eBook
An estimated 2.2 billion people worldwide live with vision impairment, including more than 32 million American adults, yet many still receive important statements, notices and bills weeks or months late because they must request them in Braille or another alternate format. This ebook makes the case that accessible documents are a business necessity as well as a legal one. It outlines the rules driving the shift, from the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 to the European Accessibility Act and WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and explains why PDF remains the standard for high-volume customer communications. It then shows where accessibility breaks down: tables tagged as graphics, headings that go undetected, images labelled only as “Image 54” and OCR output that a screen reader reads as gibberish. It closes with how OpenText Enterprise Document Accessibility converts and presents documents in accessible formats such as PDF/UA at scale, without relying on third-party remediation services.
